Asbestos

What is asbestos?

It is a fibrous material that was used in certain building materials as a fire retardant until as recently as the mid 1980's. It is now known to be hazardous when inhaled, causing cancers such as mesotheleoma.

Rhino Bins can supply bins for the removal of asbestos. Bins are a convenient and hassle free method to dispose of your asbestos.

The bin must be lined with heavy duty plastic such as fortecon (builders plastic). Asbestos fibro sheeting is then placed inside after being wet then sealed and secured for transport.

Please note that a bin may only be used for asbestos by prior arrangement. Different rates apply for this.

  • No asbestos at all can be put in the bin unless it is designated an asbestos bin by prior arrangement.
  • If you are unsure whether a material contains, or is asbestos, please ask the driver or call our office for advice.
  • Some common forms of asbestos in the household are the following: old fibro sheets on walls, old fibro sheets used as backing for tiles in bathrooms, kitchens and laundries, corrugated fibro roof sheeting, some old sewage and other plumbing pipes.
  • The costs of contaminating our recycling facility by tipping a bin containing asbestos can be substantial and will be passed onto the customer responsible.
  • Please help us keep our work environment hazard free, and employees safe and healthy.
